SICAT Simplifies Oral Appliance Ordering and Enhances 3D Imaging Capabilities

Summary: SICAT has introduced a new workflow for its Optisleep oral appliance, allowing dentists to order the device without the need for CBCT scans by using optical impressions. The company has also announced a partnership with Vatech, integrating its SICAT Suite of applications with Vatech’s 3D imaging software to support diagnostics and treatment planning for dental procedures, including sleep medicine and implantology.

Key Takeaways:

  1. CBCT-Free Workflow for Optisleep: SICAT’s new workflow enables dentists to order the Optisleep oral appliance using optical impressions, removing the requirement for CBCT scans.
  2. Integration with Vatech Software: SICAT has partnered with Vatech to incorporate its SICAT Suite into Vatech’s 3D imaging systems, offering tools for diagnostics and planning in dental practices.
  3. Application Across Dental Specialties: The updates support workflows for areas such as sleep medicine, implant planning, and endodontics, with features like airway analysis and surgical guides.

SICAT unveiled a new approach for addressing snoring and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), introducing a new workflow for its Optisleep oral appliance based on optical impressions. Dentists can now order Optisleep without the previously needed cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan of the patient.

The workflow for ordering the appliance is straightforward for the dentist. Initially, an optical impression of the patient‘s upper and lower jaw and the desired jaw relation is captured. Afterward, the oral appliance can be ordered via SICAT‘s customer platform, the SICAT Portal. The dentist completes a PDF order form and uploads it alongside the optical impression in a zip file through the portal.

“By introducing the new workflow for the Optisleep therapeutic appliance without a CBCT scan, we‘re setting another milestone in our efforts to enable the treatment of sleep disorders such as snoring and sleep apnea. Our goal has always been to simplify access to effective treatment options while maximizing patient comfort. This step reaffirms our dedication to pioneering and prioritizing patient-focused solutions,“ says SICAT CEO Jochen Kusch in a release.

New Software Partnership

Additionally, Vatech America, a manufacturer of dental equipment announced a software partnership with SICAT. Vatech has integrated the SICAT Suite of applications with Ez3D-i, Vatech’s native 3D imaging software which drives its family 3D imaging systems.

SICAT Suite (Implant, Endo, and Air), along with SICAT’s surgical guides and oral appliances, will be available to Vatech’s full line of 3D CBCT product users for precise implant planning and treatment.

Practitioners with Vatech CBCT equipment benefit from diagnostics and planning in 3D with the newly integrated SICAT Suite software modules. SICAT features artificial intelligence (AI) to create accurate and fast surgical guides for implantology and endodontic surgery, while also accommodating airway analysis for the basis of OSA management through SICAT’s Optisleep oral appliance.

“The integration of SICAT Suite with Vatech’s full line of 3D imaging equipment now allows dentists to provide their patients with an ideal experience. The package further equips the dentist with an optimized, fully digital chairside workflow that produces precise outcomes through SICAT’s surgical guides,” says Craig Hennings, president of SICAT US, in a release.

“The dentist’s success is accomplished through best-in-class clinical support. Using AI, SICAT is able to provide our best-in-class Rapid Digital Guide for in-office 3D printing. In less than

20 minutes, the dental practitioner receives a ready-to-print STL file compatible with all 3D printers. We are thrilled with this feature via our working relationship and integration between Vatech and SICAT.”
