Pison Secures Samsung Ventures Backing for Consumer Wearables for Neurocognitive Performance

Summary: Samsung Venture Investment Corporation has invested in Pison, a company that develops artificial intelligence (AI)-powered neural sensors capable of tracking neurocognitive impairments, including those linked to poor sleep, chronic fatigue, and other conditions. Pison’s wrist-based technology extracts brain activity data using AI algorithms to provide insights into mental acuity and impairment. This funding aligns with Samsung Ventures’ focus on advancing healthcare technology and highlights the broader applications of Pison’s innovations.

Key Takeaways:

  1. Investment in Neurocognitive Health: Samsung Ventures has invested in Pison to support the development of its AI-powered neural sensors, which track neurocognitive impairments such as those caused by poor sleep, fatigue, and anxiety.
  2. Innovative Wrist-Based Technology: Pison’s sensors detect brain activity from wrist nerve bundles, using AI to provide real-time insights into mental acuity and conditions like sleep deprivation and chronic fatigue.
  3. Recognition of Military Applications: Pison’s technology is also highlighted in the fiscal year 2025 National Defense Authorization Act for its potential to monitor traumatic brain injuries and fatigue in military personnel, underscoring its versatility.

Samsung Ventures Investment Corporation has invested in Pison, whose artificial intelligence (AI)-powered neural sensors track neurocognitive impairments—including those linked to poor sleep—through wrist-based technology.

“This investment highlights the dedication of Samsung Ventures to advancing future healthcare technology and acknowledges Pison’s potential in neurocognitive assessment and tracking capabilities,” reads a release from Pinson.

Pison was founded in 2016 with funding from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the National Science Foundation, and the ALS Association. The company has also received funding from several Small Business Innovation Research awards from the US Department of Defense and various research institutions. In addition, the fiscal year 2025 National Defense Authorization Act highlights the value of neural biosensors for advancing warfighter health and readiness, namely detecting traumatic brain injuries and tracking chronic fatigue.

Pison’s sensor technology detects brain activity from three nerve bundles in the wrist. Using both active and passive AI algorithms, it extracts neurocognitive data, providing insights into mental acuity and impairment from poor sleep, chronic fatigue, anxiety, neurodegenerative conditions, drugs, alcohol, and subconcussive brain injuries.

“We’re honored to have Samsung Venture Investment Corporation involved in this funding journey for Pison, as their support offers vital resources to bring forward transformative solutions with meaningful societal impact,” says John Croteau, CEO of Pison, in a release. “Our mobile apps and subscription services aim to redefine cognitive performance and productivity—whether at home, on the athletic field, in the workplace, or within mission-critical job functions.”

Samsung Venture Investment Corporation is the corporate venture capital arm of Samsung Electronics based in Seoul, South Korea. The firm prefers to invest in companies operating in semiconductors, telecommunication, software, internet, bioengineering, and medical sectors across Europe, Asia, and North America.
